Eurogroup for Animals, is the only pan-European organisation for animal welfare. We believe that animals will only truly be respected as sentient beings across the EU if comprehensive and effective EU legislation is in place. We strive for the EU to adopt a One Welfare approach that values animal and human welfare equally.

To support us in our work we are looking for a new finance officer to join our growing team. This is a key role in our organisation which we value highly, supporting all of our animal welfare activity and ensuring we make the best use of our limited resources.

As our finance officer you are responsible for Eurogroup for Animals’ overall financial management and administration. Key responsibilities are financial planning, monitoring and analysis, assisting staff with project and activity based budgeting, optimising and implementing financial governance processes whilst running a smooth administration. The finance officer assists the external auditor in the annual audit.

You will:

  • Book all income and expenditure in accounting software;
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliation;
  • Track expenditure and income against the budget and reports on variance;
  • Generate monthly legal and analytical management accounts and quarterly Board reports;
  • Develop and optimize financial governance processes;
  • Track staff hours to ensure that project commitments are met;
  • Draft analytical and legal annual budget, project budgets;
  • File annual accounts with support from external accountant;
  • Manage the annual audit process, coordinate Eurogroup for Animals’ input and liaise with the auditors;
  • Support the Director in budget development, prudent financial management and reporting;
  • Support the Board to understand the financial position of Eurogroup for Animals.

Our ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Relevant financial educational background in Belgium Bookkeeper A1 level bachelor/graduate;
  • Strong communication skills;
  • Good spoken and written English and good knowledge of Dutch or French;
  • Proven experience of legal and project budgeting, financial reporting and auditing in Belgium (at least 3 years experience);
  • Proactive and independent;
  • Result focused;
  • Communicative;
  • Conscientious;
  • With a strong sense for detail while able to grasp and analyse the bigger picture;
  • Reliable.
