Purpose of the position

The Network Management Lufthansa Group Africa is responsible for developing an optimal flight schedule for Lufthansa Group`s Africa route network across all hubs, optimizing the profitability of the offered routes and the strategic development of the flight schedule.

Your tasks

  • Development of Lufthansa Group Network strategy for Africa, and planning the flight to/from Africa to all Lufthansa Group HUBs. Management of the planning and evaluation process for respective field of responsibility. Alignment with all relevant interfaces;
  • Economically optimise schedule, increase the profitability, enhance the market share, LHG Group commercial optimum, LHG Profitability;
  • Maximizing the network profitability, delivery of optimal network quality, reach and transfer quality for customers considering infrastructural conditions (Traffic Rights, Slots, Curfews, Airport Infrastructure, Operational Ability, Block hours, Ground Times, Connecting Times,….). Collaboration with partners, Follow LHG strategy and network strategy;
  • Plan, develop and maintain the Africa network by conducting analytical insights to derive commercial decisions, development of Guidelines and Procedures, optimization in line with demand, market development and competitive behavior. Develop new opportunities and prepare business cases as foundation to decisions;
  • Accountable for the profitability of the Africa flights for all HUBs, and initiating measures in the field of responsibility to improve results. Trigger interfaces and partners;
  • Create decision papers and presentations to drive the commercial decisions and facilitate the discussion on the network topics on all levels up and including Executive Board;
  • Secure and implement short-term program adjustment in reaction to demand fluctuation & market changes (seasonality, single flight editing, additional flights, charter flights, inclusion of special events, slot adjustments etc.);
  • Negotiate with airports and stakeholders within the area of responsibility to secure commercial contributions in the form of incentives or equivalents;
  • Act as a commercial interface for all Intercontinental operations of LHG towards the local business Unit – liaise with the other relevant geographical intercontinental planning teams to address issues related to the commercial performance of the respective intercontinental services. Take ownership of the relevant points and address them locally.

Your profile

  • Higher university degree (business administration, economics or similar) e.g. MBA or equivalent;
  • Work experience within commercial airline function of multiple years, revenue or network management advantageous;
  • Network experience;
  • Ideally leadership experience;
  • Commercial understanding of airline business incl. KPI interpretation & handling;
  • Strong presentation & negotiation skills;
  • Analytical mindset;
  • Being eligible to live and work in Belgium.
