Role

As a Team Leader in the Regulatory Advisory Team, you will be responsible for the sub-team Risk Assessment & Control Definition (“CRA Team”) with 4 team members. You will be providing advice to senior management and assistance to the AML/CTF and sanctions business experts and the different lines of business on the concrete implementation of the AML/CTF and sanctions laws, regulations, standards and market practices. You will work with multiple areas daily receiving queries and offering mentorship across a broad range of topics. Your team will perform overall risk assessments, define control objectives and work on projects with the wider Financial Crime team that will help refresh and calibrate what we do in a constantly evolving environment.

While we are ideally looking for a candidate who can work across both the AML/CTF and Sanctions domains, a strong expertise in one and a curiosity about the other will also be considered!

Your responsibilities

  • Continue building up the skills of the CRA team by coaching the team and prioritising the team in a manner that decreases the dependency on key individuals and have a back-up system;
  • Organising within the team the support to the 1st line of defence (1LOD) in EB in implementing AML/CTF and sanctions policies and procedures. Advice the CCO’s in the Group on the best practises;
  • Convert approved AML/CTF and sanctions frameworks into control objectives in IRM and assist the implementation of these together with relevant collaborators;
  • Perform with the team the EB periodic financial crime risks assessment (AML ORA/Sanctions EWRA) to ensure that risks are identified, measured, and appropriately addressed, and prepare risk assessment reports to be submitted to the regulators. Prepare the future for embedding Sanctions EWRA into the AML ORA and look for efficiencies into assessing the control framework (ie align with IRM for the assessment of control framework). Advice the CCO’s in the other CSD’s on standard processes and provide guidance for their risk assessments;
  • Ensure the team is well preparing periodic reports that need to be submitted to the different competent authorities for EB and the Group (NBB, Belgian Ministry of Finance, etc.) and contribute to internal Financial Crime reports, bringing them to next level of maturity (eg. sanctions risk event reporting);
  • Oversee the country risk assessments from AML/CTF and sanctions angle, ensure the team maintains country risk dashboard up to date and support the team in discussions with internal partners;
  • Organise within the CRA team and coach the team on AML/CTF and sanctions risk assessments of new market links and new services. Support the team in discussions with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Deliver with the team EB and Group AML/CTF and sanctions training and e-learning. Develop a modular training approach;
  • Oversee the tracking and review of anti-financial crime implementation plan (gap assessment and remediation plans), including contribution together with the team to the improvement initiatives “KYC Next Horizon” and “Sanctions SIP”;
  • Support the 1LOD in completion of the annual RCSA exercise and provide independent 2LOD expert opinion.

Your profile

  • Team Management: Confirmed experience in optimally managing and leading teams;
  • Have a passion for learning and helping others. Able to see the strengths in people and identify learning opportunities;
  • Able to prioritize deliverables within the team and build a longer-term planning and vision for the team. You are comfortable working with other departments which may have conflicting priorities and can adapt your approach depending on the situation;
  • Sound knowledge of AML/CTF and/or Sanctions with previous experience (minimum 5 years) in interpreting or monitoring AML/CTF and/or Sanctions compliance in Euroclear;
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships across business areas and present information and recommendations in a clear and actionable manner. Able to link regulatory change with business opportunities and challenges;
  • Risk oriented attitude;
  • Stress-resistant;
  • Experience in conceptualizing and delivering training;
  • Educated to Master’s degree level or equivalent qualification/relevant work experience;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English – ability to analyse and summarise;
  • Strategic & Commercial awareness – develop and apply commercial awareness and eye for business in day to day and longer-term tasks.
