POLITICO is looking for an entrepreneurial, results-oriented salesperson to join our dynamic and growing Advertising Sales team. The position is based in POLITICO Europe HQ in Brussels. POLITICO is a pioneering and growing media company that covers the politics, policy and personalities of the European Union.

Roles & Responsibilities

The Account Director position is a sales position with the primary objective of identifying new ways of working with clients to improve offerings and optimize campaigns while actively developing business.

We seek an experienced, talented and smart candidate who works proactively to achieve business objectives while maintaining a culture of collaboration, development and achievement. We are looking for someone with strong integrated media communications planning experience, with best in class account and client handling, and the ability to manage multiple internal stakeholders in a cross disciplinary team.

The successful candidate will have a good understanding of account handling, confident communicator both internally and externally to clients and agencies and have a thorough understanding of public affairs and corporate communications. A major part of the role will be challenging the client to think in new ways in terms of delivering business needs and answering briefs with a focus on all aspects of media. This role is a great opportunity for an individual looking to grow and establish strong client relationships and campaign management skills.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Manage clients on a day to day basis, working closely to understand their business challenges. Maintain a thorough understanding of client's business and lead strategic advice across teams;
  • Owns the response to client briefs – ensuring that team output is best in class and delivering against client’s targets and objectives, demonstrating a deep understanding of media channels;
  • Lead client projects through to completion; coordinating the execution of media plans with delivery team;
  • Develop strong relationships with agency, client and media owner contacts;
  • Present market updates and insight to clients and agencies;
  • Scan the market and develop strategies to acquire new accounts;
  • Drive innovation and fresh thinking;
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities to achieve sales results;
  • Develop proposals and conduct sales presentations for integrated public affairs campaigns across multiple platforms such as advertising, sponsored content, events and conferences;
  • Embody the successful brand presence of POLITICO in the market, represent POLITICO at member briefings, network events and industry conferences;
  • Thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • 5+ years of professional experience, including business-to-business sales;
  • Experience in consultative selling with the ability to craft insightful solutions as we problem solve for our clients;
  • An in depth understanding of all media channels as well as a working knowledge of client marketing;
  • Experience in meeting or exceeding high sales targets and managing client relationships;
  • Strong understanding of campaign performance data;
  • Inspiring presentation skills and pitches;
  • Entrepreneurial mind set and strong client services ethic;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • Ability to prioritize and recognize business critical matters while remaining adaptable;
  • A university degree is required;
  • Fluent English, written and spoken, and any other European language.

Preferred qualifications

  • Understanding of the public affairs ecosystem and advertising market trends;
  • Experience with the Microsoft Suite, especially PowerPoint to be used in presentations;
  • Exposure to Salesforce or other CRM tools;
  • Interest in and understanding of current European political and policy issues;
  • Entrepreneurial mind set, outgoing nature and a can-do attitude;
  • An organized operator who thrives under the demands of clients;
  • Gravitas and confidence, someone who can comfortably communicate and relate to all levels of people within a business;
  • Sense of humor!
